British Researchers Hail 'breakthrough' In Allergy Relief

By: Rick Young

Ah, spring! Most people love it, but for 26 million people, it means having to decide between sneezing and itchy eyes or taking allergy medicines that can make them feel either jittery or drowsy.

Pollen is the most common culprit in triggering the body's allergic response. The human nose is designed to filter out allergens before they can cause a reaction, but sometimes its filtering system doesn't work properly. Therefore, many people who have allergies are tempted to stay indoors with air conditioning on or drive with car windows closed. Allergies control their lives.

But British researchers have recently completed a study that they say represents a major breakthrough in allergy relief. A powder discovered by an English researcher has demonstrated the ability to restore the natural "air filter" inside the nose, immediately relieving symptoms and potentially making pocketfuls of tissues a thing of the past.

The National Pollen and Aerobiology Research Unit at England's Worchester University, one of the world's busiest and most prestigious pollen research facilities, has studied this powder. The double blind, placebo controlled study conducted in June 2004 showed significant results when using the powder, which is available in the United States under the name SneezEze.

"These findings are a major breakthrough for allergy sufferers because they show evidence that SneezEze can reduce hay fever symptoms without side effects," said Professor Jean Emberlin, director of the unit and the study's lead investigator.

The results of this study confirmed an earlier one published in Advances in Therapy in 2003, which showed 78 percent of participants using the powder reported major or complete relief from allergy symptoms - far above leading allergy medicines - with no side effects reported.

According to the manufacturer, this all-natural product is safe for children, too, as demonstrated in a recent study of 100 children conducted at the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki, Greece. The study confirmed SneezEze's ability to reduce nasal congestion and relieve allergy symptoms in children.

A new U.S. clinical study, sponsored by SneezEze distributor EuroPharma, will begin this year.

SneezEze is applied using a patented delivery system that coats the nasal passages with a fine powder mist that helps restore the nose to its natural state. It is effective for all types of allergies, including pollen, animal dander and smoke, and allergens found in recycled air on planes and in the workplace.
